Howdy all & MERRY CHRISTMAS.
We are pleased to announce that we have partnered up with Bend Dinners Done Right to raise money for BARR.  For every purchase friends of BARR make at the Bend Dinners Done Right (DDR) they will put 5% of that purchase towards donations to BARR.
For those who have not heard of DDR they are a meal preparation company.  You go over to their store across fro TS&S Dodge on Greenwood and pick out 6 or 12 meals from their menu, prepare them yourself or have them prepare them and then take them home and pop 'em in the freezer.  Pull them out, thaw them and cook a great meal....their link is below.
We use this service and find it to be very convenient as well as tasty, fast and pretty reasonably priced.

If you buy food there just mention this code at checkout...."BOBARR" and they will donate 5% to BARR.

We're located in  Borden's Corner, across from Costco, on the corner of Hwy 20 and Dean Swift Rd. Just 2 doors down from the new Longboard Louis. If you're heading East from downtown on Hwy 20 we're on the right hand side across the street from Chevron.

Hi everyone,
We regret to inform ya'll that Betsy has passed.  She began her BARR life on Christmas Eve 2005 with  a recon patrol deep in the mountains of Mitchell.  She came to us a few weeks later fighting off starvation and anemia from hundreds of ticks.  At well over 30 years old she did great here for most of 2 full years and was gentle and relaxed if not a bit stand off-ish.
On Monday (12-17-07) she had what we believe was a stroke that caused some issues with her body that she could not overcome.  Although she had recovered somewhat she could not pull off total recovery at her age.
THANKS to all of you who had an influence on her last happy years full of love (and carrots-Marg & Rudy) here at BARR.

3 month update
new arrivals; Diamond, Rocky, Wobbles

Diamond was a stray in the Prineville area. Was very wild and dehydrated she is healthy and not so wild very gentle and trainable. She has been the easiest baby ever.

It was recommended to the owner that Rocky and his Mom came to BARR by Redmond ASPCA. We picked up him and his Mom [we called her Raven] a few weeks ago Raven had a severe impaction and was extremley dehydrated, she just couldn't pull through. But Rocky has made it although we weren't sure he had the gumption at the time. These horses were rated by the ASPCA as a 1.5,

Wobbles is just beautiful, and her name because her owner believed she has the condition. We have seen no signs of it yet and when we have the funds will have that assumption verified. You don't want to miss meeting her, if she wasn't close to 800lbs she would be a house pet.

I am going to give give the quick update on the announcements I have been a bit busy to update this site. If you haven't been on our email list then you have missed stuff. BARR B Q's every month still going strong and weather good or bad it's still a good thing. We have new volunteers new animals, mostly equine and we are matching animals to owners before the animal has to move to an interm home. Thanks to all the media we have had we have a list of families who have given us their dream animal and we can find homes when we get a rescue call usually within a few days.
Mack and Blaze have been switched with Mary and Doe to Sancuary Faith Trails www.sanctuaryfaithtrails.org at Kah Nee Ta. Chris Buller trains the novice horse and others to be on the trail hiking up 700 feet or what ever for the rider. There is a cost for this trail ride and the profits go to buy food for hungry humans. We have Mary and Doe in trade so to speak both too old and skinny to make the hike they will have a home here for life or will make a great adoption pet for the equine lover. They have put on at least 100 lbs each in a short time, they have figured out it's all about food. If you want to know more about them come on by or give a call.
Cain and April rescued April 1st, 30 years on 50 acres in Salem, all the grass and water naturally provided but never handled by a compassionate human until that call in March. The new, by default owner, needed help the horses were getting out on a busy road. With the help of Willamette Humane Society we spent 6 1/2 hours cornering the trailering them to Blissful Acres. Talk about compassionate people, I have never worked with people who had a feel for what a horse was thinking more than these people, we could't have done it without them.
Ranger, blind in one eye surrendered because of scarse hay during the late winter in acting as a schooling horse for one of our volunteers [thanks Diane] for a month or two, his pix on Pet Finder.
Red Tango a donated Kenntucky Mt Horse ready to sell to the perfect home, a portion of the cost to purchase him is tax deductable. I will get pictures online soon.
Tommy the goat was adopted for an equine mate.
There are more shelters up for these animals thanks to our neighbors the Parr's. We have about 40% our furry friends that stand in them daily but when the weather really sucks they are ALL in there.
We just purchased 6 ton of hay from another neighbor for $165.00 per ton we need 60.
O ya, I went to a Natural Hoof Care Clinic, [for the dessert horse] if you don't know anything about it and want to go online it's pretty cool.

Thank you volunteers for ALL the help over the winter. Your time and care for the animals is always appreciated.
We are not out of hay today but if you see for sale signs or meet someone that has more hay than they will use please let us know we like to keep a list for folks in need.
Maria and RAZZ have been placed in a permanent home, thank you Rudnick's.
We have a new cat and goat they came together very sweet, Ebony and Tommy pictures coming soon.
Mac and Blaze 2 new horses from OHS rescued last year perfectly healthy now because of their foster home Carl and Linda website at  www.brokenarrowpaints.com  they are located in Molalla. These 2 boys were stallions until Sept not socialized to humans- one thinks we are up to no good [I don't believe I have ever been threatened so many times by one horse] and the other is pretty trusting.
Daine one of our volunteer's has gone above and beyond taking care of a 1 week old goat. When he "Bleet" is healthy enough and mostly off the bottle he will be here at BARR, very cute.
And Bailey a new ausi shepard, Ed's of course.

Hi All,
We got a really cool donation of 10 tons of hay and we need help getting it picked up.  Our normal flatbed trailer got sold so we 're looking to borrow a 16-20 foot flatbed pumperpull trailer for an afternoon or 2 next week.  We could use some help also if you have some time and wanna visit with any of the residents whilst you're at it....

PLEASE call or e-mail.

thanks,

We have received another ABUSED horse. Rusty was ridden until he collapsed by his drunken owner in downtown Redmond. The owner tied bailing twine around his front feet and hooked him up to his pickup truck and dragged him down the road where he tied him to a post and abandoned him. Rusty is currently recovering from SEVERE road rash with very deep wounds that start at his eye brow and run all the way down his left side. We are still picking asphalt out of his coat.
